Power Tools are for Men!

In this age of “equality” between the sexes it is important for men to nevertheless insist on having some things to ourselves.

Power tools would certainly be items not suitable for women. The only electric tools women should use are a vacuum cleaner and a vibrator. So, if any women are reading this, please stop, and go read vogue or polish your nails, such as handbags, silk bedding, sweater or children clothing.

A power tool is a tool powered by an electric motor, a compressed air motor, an internal combustion engine, direct burning of fuels and propellants, or even natural power sources like wind or moving water. Power tools are classified as either stationary or portable, where portable means handheld. They are used in industry, in construction, and around the house for driving, drilling, cutting, shaping, sanding, grinding, polishing, painting, and heating. Stationary power tools for metalworking are usually called machine tools. The term machine tool is not usually applied to stationary power tools for woodworking, although such usage is occasionally heard, and in some cases, such as drill presses and bench grinders, the exact same tool is used for both woodworking and metalworking. Stationary power tools are prized not only for their speed, but for their accuracy. A table saw not only cuts faster than a hand saw, but the cuts are smoother, straighter and more square than even the most skilled man can do with a hand saw. Lathes produce truly round objects that cannot be made in any other way. Common power tools include the drill, various types of saws, the router, the electric sander, and the lathe. The term power tool is also used in a more general sense, meaning a technique for greatly simplifying a complex or difficult task.

It takes a man to appreciate the feeling of a power tool and the sense of accomplishment that comes from making something yourself.    To any women readers who have made it this far, I will say this: some of you will probably claim that you are quite capable of using power tools. And, of course, some women might actually learn to operate a power tool, but you don’t understand the satisfaction that comes from making something, using only your own hands and skills. Sure, women may learn to operate a power tool on a purely technical level, much as a monkey can be taught to drive a car. My point is that both may be able to, technically, perform such a task, but neither are able to fully appreciate the experience.

So, all the little princesses should have the courtesy to stay out of our garages, just as we have the courtesy to stay out of their kitchens. They should go to their kitchens, which their husband or some other man installed, cook dinner and leave the power tools to those who know how to use them as well as appreciate them.
